IKEA changes typeface to …. Verdana?!

IKEA have turned their back on 50 years of Futura and are using the hyper-ugly Verdana typeface in their 2010 catalogue - apparently because it includes additional characters such as those required for Asian-language character sets. Surely they could have found something better for their catalogue? Even if they used Verdana for the body copy of the website? Which of course is crazy in itself when you have Helvetica and Arial (for the less fortunate non-Mac users)...

It seems like most of the web has already linked to this but this post by Bud Caddell regarding How to be Happy in Business perfectly summarises the situation for many freelancers in digital media particularly. It certainly fits with the situation I generally find myself in.

I stumbled across this article from Matthew Homann on how to trade unfulfilling business for self respect. It resonates well until point 5 which seems kind of unachievable in a down economy.
