Mid September 2010
I am an accomplished digital developer, ecommerce specialist, consultant and designer with more than a decade of industry experience.
I offer a personal approach to digital design and development which I hope you’ll find refreshingly different. I’m equally at home with working as part of a larger team or working entirely remotely – my clients are spread out across the UK and further afield.
I live near Chester with my wife and young daughter and currently work on a freelance basis with direct clients and digital agencies across the country.
I provide expert advice on a wide range of web and ecommerce-related issues for my client base, often taking on the role of digital champion within client businesses. I work with clients to shape their digital strategies and then manage the technical implementation of these strategies using best practices for digital development.
I have built up an huge bank of knowledge and experience in the area of web and ecommerce development as well as a network of expert collaborators who can be called up on as and when required by a project brief.
From 2000 to 2006, I worked with the founders of Tightsplease.co.uk, an online retailer of hosiery in the UK. I provided advice and technical development skills in all areas of the business and was responsible for the production of their ecommerce websites during this period. When we launched a new iteration of the website in 2005 based on many of my recommendations for implementing the best practice at this time they saw an increase in sales of nearly 40% in the first month after launch.
In 2005, I lead the project to design and build a first ecommerce website for Housemakers, a regional homeware chain based in the North West. I was responsible for the technical build and online marketing strategy leading to first year online turnover which was much higher than initially estimated.
From 2006 to 2009 I worked with The Cartridge People, the leading online retailer of ink cartridges in the UK. During this time I advised the directors on digital strategy and was responsible for the design and production of a new website to replace their existing platform as well as the launch of the site into the German market and the development of a separately branded website targeting business customers.
In 2006 I also started an ecommerce business with my partner (now wife) selling social stationery, notebooks and journals exclusively online. From a standing start we’ve slowly built this business into a niche online player, produced a printed catalogue for customers and picked up a number of contracts to supply personalised notebooks to large corporate customers.
“Simon made my job easy! He took the limited amount of information that I was able to provide and turned it into a work of art. He stayed on task to ensure that we met our deadline on budget and was extremely flexible throughout the entire process. I am happy to recommend Simon anytime.”
“Simon has amazing attention to detail and is a thorough and expert front-end developer. Highly recommended!”
“Simon concentrated on understanding our business thoroughly before embarking on development. His use of the latest Ruby on Rails development tools has meant lightning fast applications even in the most remote locations. We would recommend him unreservedly to anyone looking to make use of his services.”
“I have used Simon’s services over a number of years now and they have always resulted in professional and well executed jobs. He will take the time to delve deeper into the brief, uncover any hidden problems and offer sensible, real-world solutions. A thumbs up from me…”
“Working with Simon was a great experience. He came up with a fantastic concept which perfectly highlighted the fun and interactivity of our iPhone app and then he delivered a high quality finished website within our budget. We will definitely work with him again in the future.”
